Re: Birth Control Options and Diabetes
Can you remind me where you're at, Kabith? Because obviously, ideally, what would be best is to find you a provider who is more knowledgeable you can see in person, as this is pretty far above our pay grade!

Re: Rape culture and social media
I'd add, btw, that calling abuse or harassment a "prank" is sadly not new. Saying something was a joke, was "just playing around," "just having fun" or any other of a long, long line of rationalizations or excuses when it comes to rape or harassment has an unfortunately...

Thanks for being part of our community, too, Kabith. :) I'm so glad we've got people like you in it! I'll be interested to read other thoughts in this thread as people chime in. And I agree: I'd been following some of what's been going on, and you've all done a really good thing here. I'm glad it's ...

Re: Rape culture and social media
(Just FYI, it's okay to outlink to most things anywhere on Scarleteen, so long as a) they're not intended for people over 18 only, and b) they feel, to you, like something sound to link to here. For instance, hopefully it'd be obvious that linking to hate speech or antichoice things -- though I know...

Re: Rape culture and social media
I think loading or watching a page so you are able to report it is something that you should figure is not contributing to someone's platform or is going to fill their pockets. Especially since what you're doing with that one single load -- which is just that one, not an outlink that can results in ...

Re: Isn't this sexual assault?
It might be helpful, as Ruth left you with, to get a sense of who the "people" are that you are saying are telling you what is and is not common or normal sexual behavior for men. Especially since a lot of what I hear you voicing here is not what we know to be common male behavior. In othe...

Re: Wife's friend thinks my wife is married to a gay man(ME!
It might be helpful to exclude porn for now, since your orientation is about real life, not fantasy. Porn is constructed fantasy. In real life, have you found yourself feeling emotional and/or sexual attraction towards men, women, both or pretty much any gender (or finding gender pretty irrelevant i...

When love doesn't happen in a straight line
Have you noticed that so often -- in life, in movies or TV, in mainstream media love advice -- romantic relationships are represented as always happening in a very similar and linear progression? Something like this: boy meets girl (because heterocentrism also always looms large). Boy asks girl out ...

Re: Birth Control Pills Question
For most people, combined methods like the pill do NOT wreak havoc on their bodies. But again, no one method -- just like no one way of eating, or no one pair of jeans -- is right for everyone. I feel, though, like I am hearing you say that ideally, you would a) rather not use any method that involv...

Re: MAP and more
I don't think it's irrational. I mean, I see it this way: if HE was someone who could become pregnant, he would not likely be so flippant about this, and he would probably be pretty upset, too. Him not putting himself in your shoes -- since he can't become pregnant like you can -- means he's not bei...

Re: Gender of the Day!
The silly person in me wants a lot of what's there (Carrot with a Face and Extremely Long Egg were faves), but I actually felt pretty moved and inspired by the "Person Made of Galaxies" one: http://genderoftheday.tumblr.com/image/98161877144 (Of course, we're all made of galaxies, really, ...

I agree with you: that was a crap response, BIG TIME. I'm glad you feel upset about it -- though I'm sorry this happened to you and that you're feeling so bad -- because I'd be pretty concerned about you if you thought it was okay. Do you want to talk about your options with this relationship, as we...

I understand! And by all means, while pregnancy is very unlikely to happen from sex right-right before a period starts, it's not technically impossible, so since a pregnancy wasn't something you wanted, that was a smart move. I take it you have already told him how you felt about this? If so, how di...

Re: Birth Control Pills Question
Side effects of any given method often differ a lot from person-to-person. So, no one should be telling anyone else not to use a method because THEY had effects they did not like. (Especially since, too, contraceptive methods prevent pregnancy, which has way MORE side effects, as well as being a pot...

So many great ones in your list, suburban_witch! :) One I have that has been brought with me so much over the years and picked up so constantly the paper feels like a pair of old jeans is Thich Nhat Hanh's "Peace is Every Step." One of the things I love most about it is the fact that it ha...

PMs are only available for use for staff, volunteers and peer moderators. I suspect the issue you are having as a peer moderator is that you have yet -- as do all the peer mods! -- to choose a forum to moderate, so are in that group, but do not have all the powers you will once you are actually list...

Mindfulness Help?
Mindfulness practices and exercises are strongly associated with helping people manage anxiety, work through interpersonal conflict, nurture and support self-esteem, and get a better handle on what they want and need, and just where they're at in terms of their own feelings. Is this something any of...

Re: a little blood when wiping
What a sweet thank you: you are so welcome! :) Anxiety is a mental health issue, so if and when someone finds they are really struggling with it, and not finding relief from doing things they can on their own, my best suggestion, if you have access to it, is to seek out a qualified mental healthcare...

Re: a little blood when wiping
Just to also be clear, a full STI screening includes a bimanual GYN exam and pap smear, so if your GP did not do those things, you did not get a full screening. If they did, then you did, and you have, then, gotten your basic GYN preventative care, so you can know that is sorted. (Which does not mea...
