Re: What is "Perfect Use"

Welcome to Scarleteen, hayleyeh! A 'perfect user' is someone who takes the pill around the same time every day, does not miss any pills, and does not do anything that otherwise might compromise protection (such as taking certain antibiotics, for example). You do not have to take the pill at the same...

You're fine - at 9 hours after taking the pill, it was absorbed and you do not need to worry that your protection was compromised.

Re: Emergency contraception

Both taking EC and starting birth control can cause irregular bleeding, so an irregular period at this point isn't really a cause for concern. Birth control injections are fairly foolproof - as long as you get your shots as scheduled, you can rely on the protection. So, I don't see a reason why you ...

Once you have a partner, and you find you are having issues with intimacy in that relationship, that is something we are happy to then talk about with you. But those are not things we can make blanket statements on - we really tend to need to know more about a specific situation to give advice. So f...

Re: Switching birth control pills! Am I overreacting?

Yes: if you started the new pack right after your 7-day break, you did not have a gap.

And no - all birth control pills are designed to prevent pregnancy, so that protection does not change based on the specific make-up of the brand you are taking.

Re: Feeling guilty about wanting PiV sex

I think one thing that might help you is to reframe your thinking around this so that you are no longer viewing orgasms as the ultimate goal of every sexual act. No sexual activity is ever guaranteed to lead to orgasm (for anyone, not just women), and an orgasm is not necessary for sex to be enjoyab...

I turned 30 this year, I am married, and for the past three years I have held a 9-5ish office job that I am qualified for with my advanced degree. And yet, I am still expecting to find a letter in my mail any day that says "Haha, just kidding, you have to move back into your parents basement no...

Re: Getting "inked"?

Kela, it's really tricky to make predictions about what will hurt, because it's really very individual. For example, I was told that getting a tattoo on the top of my foot would hurt quite a lot, but I did not find that very painful at all, whereas I felt a lot of pain when I got a tattoo on my uppe...

Re: Tampons -- how???

So, to start with, not everyone finds tampons comfortable to use. So not being able to use tampons doesn't mean there is anything wrong - plenty of people feel more comfortable with options such as pads or menstrual cups. However, since you are saying that you also have trouble with insertion in gen...

Re: Birth control effectiveness reduced?

Since the vomitting did not occur until several hours after taking your pill, you do not have to worry that your protection was compromised by that. Your pill was long since digested by then. And you do have a grace period for taking the pill - as long as you take it around the same time, you're fin...

So, unprotected intercourse, even without ejaculation, does present a pregnancy risk, even if it does not last long. Re: Birth control late??

Taking the pill four hours after your pill time is not late. A pill that is taken 12+ hours after the pill time is late. So, that should not have any impact on the effectiveness of your pill.
