When you want support through something scary or rough, and help pulling yourself together and getting through, this is the place.

We ask that users looking for general, ongoing emotional support post in this area of the boards, and that you use this space to both ask for, give and receive that support primarily from each other, rather than from our staff and volunteers. As a staff, we simply are often too overextended with all we need to do in running the organization and its services to do that for extended periods of time, and one of our main aims of our community at the boards has always been to facilitate peers to better be there for each other.

Users often report that they have no in-person peers they can talk to or seek support from: we want this to be a space for online peer support and somewhere everyone can get some practice asking for, getting and giving support so that doing it with people in your lives feels more doable.

Please remember that neither staff, volunteers nor your fellow users can provide or replace mental healthcare when that is something you need. Users struggling with issues like anxiety, depression, abuse or physical health issues are strongly encouraged to seek out qualified, in-person help with those issues in addition to peer or staff support.

constant feelings of stress, anger, frustation etc and difficulty coping with them

Unread post by alriune »

hi all,

recently i was discharged by my therapists for non-compliance reasons, and while i am upset about that it's not really the main point of this post. i'm mentioning it because i have no professionals to talk to right now, and that whole episode has left me feeling incredibly discouraged from trying to seek out professional help again.

i feel like i'm constantly stressed and frustrated which has made me incredibly irritable and impacted my physical health (headaches, muscles aches and tension). no coping methods i've tried seem to help and sometimes even make me more frustrated. i feel like i'm going to explode and take it out on someone, i already blew up at my sister the other day. i'm also worried that i'm on the brink of developing an addiction to something like buying things or substances though neither are a problem for me right now.

i don't know what to do and most of the coping methods for stress i see are just platitudes and/or don't work for me

Hi alriune,

I hear you on how frustrating it is to feel like the advice out there for how to cope with difficult emotions like irritability is pretty unhelpful. Can you give me a sense of what things you HAVE tried so I don't recommend them, and what about them didn't seem to work for you? Too, with your therapist, was the discharge due to a philosophical differences, or more practical ones (like them favoring a certain therapeutic approach that was not a good fit for you)?
And you to whom adversity has dealt the final blow/with smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go/turn to and put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain/and like the Mary Ellen Carter rise again.
