Possible Pregnancy

Unread post by Emily_37382 »

Hello i on the 14th of February, during my ovulation period a condom broke. He had not ejaculated yet but the condom did break inside me and i felt concerned about the possibility of the precum making my pregnant due to being in my fertile days. So less than 24hrs later i went and got a plan b (ella one) i took it with little to no side effects, the only one being that my next period was a week later. It started off a lot lighter than usual but did get heavier, to the normal flow i am used to. I have had some symptoms related to pregnancy, but I am also a Type 1 Diabetic, so some symptoms can potentially overlap. My sugars have been completely out of range with the extreme anxiety which i am feeling, especially in the lead up to exams. Although I am close with my parents, I do not feel comfortable enough to bring up the topic of sex that i have with my boyfriend and i am only 16. We currently use only two contraceptive methods which are the use of condoms and natural tracking methods. I have tried 4 pregnancy tests over the course of a month since the breaking of the condom. But all have come back negative. However I have a gut feeling that I am in fact pregnant, however I am not sure if this is paranoia. I have been constipated, which i normally never are, however i haven’t been eating my breakfast due to the anxiety and i have not been drinking enough water. I feel much more bloated than normal but I am supposed to get my period in 7 days on the 11/04/25. I am extremely worried and do not feel comfortable enough to go to my GP, who is a male, at 16years old to ask for a blood test to see if i am pregnant or not. I am also not sure if they have a policy in which they have to alert my parents to this or put it down on a permanent record. I am extremely anxious and have absolutely no clue what to do. There was also a second breakage, however this time he pulled out luckily right before he ejaculated as he had felt the condom broke. However he did end up ejaculating on my thigh. I am not sure if this could have negatively impacted me, causing a pregnancy. I did not take a plan b for this as it was within the same month at the end of the same cycle at which I had taken a plan b. It happened a week before I got my period. Please help!

Hello Emily37382, welcome to the boards!

I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been so worried! Let me assure you, there is no chance that you are pregnant. I understand that you’re worried about some of the symptoms you’ve been experiencing, but as you suggested yourself, they can be caused by things other than pregnancy. What matters most is that you’ve gotten your period, and you’ve had a negative test result. Each of those are reliable signs that you are not pregnant.

Since you are not pregnant, your next steps could be to think about how you’ll handle pregnancy risk in the future. It might also be a good idea to think about how you’ll get sexual and reproductive healthcare when you need it.

Starting with the latter: At your age, you have the right to confidentiality with healthcare providers. This means a doctor would not share information about your health with your parents without your permission. Since you’ve mentioned that you wouldn’t feel comfortable talking to your current GP about sexual health, what would you think about finding another GP or a gynaecologist? We can help with the process of finding one if you want.
We currently use only two contraceptive methods which are the use of condoms and natural tracking methods.
While you’re most likely to get pregnant if you have sex close to when you ovulate, the reality is that you can get pregnant during any part of your cycle. It is often helpful to use two contraceptive methods together, but I’m not sure this is the most effective combination if your goal is to prevent pregnancy. You can continue to use it if it feels right to you, but if you’re interested, we have an article that compares some other options: The Buddy System: Effectiveness Rates for Backing Up Your Birth Control With a Second Method

It’s a bit odd that you had two condoms break within a short period. We have another article that goes over some reasons why this might have happened, with steps you can take to prevent it. Condoms Breaking? Ur Probably Doin It Wrong.

It sounds like this whole situation has been really stressful. Do you think it would be a good idea to take a break from the kinds of sex that can cause pregnancy? This would just be until you feel confident in your ability to handle any pregnancy scares
