Birth control interaction

Unread post by Angeldelight123 »

Hi there,

Just a quick question, does green tea decrease the effectiveness of the birth control pill?
I've only had one cup of it to try it and haven't drank any since.
Thanks.

This informational page about the pill here -- http://www.scarleteen.com/birth_control ... ation_pill -- which I believe we have shared with you before, includes a list of things known to interact with the pill poorly, or which are suspected of possibly interacting.

Here's that list pulled from that page:
Certain medications and substances may interfere with the effectiveness of the birth control pill or the pill may interact with the effectiveness of that medication. Always tell any healthcare provider suggesting or prescribing you medications that you use oral contraceptives. If you are using or have, in your current pill cycle, used, any of the following it's best to use a backup method of birth control (like a condom) until your next new cycle:

Barbituates
Tetracycline
Cloribrate
Neomycin
Rifampin
Chloramphenicol
Penicillin
Sulfonamide
Ampicillin
Nitrofuratonin
Griseofulvin
Benzodiazepines
Metronidazole
Fluconazole
Anti-Migraine Medications
Epilepsy/Seizure Medications

It's part of our mission and job here to help people learn to find the answers to their own questions themselves. That way, at any time in life when you can't find someone like us, or an answer can't wait, you won't be...well, screwed. :P

So, know I am not being snarky when I ask: do you see green tea in that list of things that may interact and decrease effectiveness? If not (and you shouldn't, as it isn't there), then yes, your answer is no.
