Where can I get STI and sex ed info?

Unread post by leaflet owo »

hey Scarleteen!

So i’ve done some basic reading and research on STIs and sex ed and stuff but I want to take it further and make sure I play it safe. I’m a lesbian in a sexual relationship with a girly (we’re friends who want to explore). I recently asked her if she was okay if I explored with other partners—I got close to having sex with a girly on an out-of-state trip lucky me—and she told me she was okay with it so long as I enjoy it (:3) and that I’m safe with it because we don’t want to be getting diseases. I started searching online on how to be safe about sex but it just seems like soo muuuchhhhh aaaaaa sooo scaryyyyy and also where my lesbian sources at?

I was wondering if any of y’all have a source guide or something akin to a sex ed curriculum or at least prompts/starters on what to even put into the search bar because like aaaaaaaaa. I’m asking for just into the general too, it would be really nice to have just a “curriculum” available for anyone who goes searching for it and wants to do their own research because the world is scary and help is good.
The information that I’m *not* looking for is “do abstinence” or “be monogamous” because gang i couldn’t promise you that I can keep that promise to the end of summer break. Maybe starting on how to wear condoms, what they do for you, what if we want to scissor, what if we want to go it dry/skin-skin because that sounds hella plesurable.

Background info: I’m a highschooler just discovering her sexuality and how to find kinky girlies to play with. I’ve been in three sexual relationships before my current girly and we did not use protection. Should I be concerned?

Thank you so much my Scarleteen loves, I appreciate y’all sosososo much!
Sincerely, Leaflet

Hi Leaflet! You're definitely in the right place to get this information. I'd go as far as saying you're in THE place for it. :)

It's not a curriculum, but we have sooo many pieces and series on our site about safe sex, STIs, queer sex, and everything in between. I'm going to send you a few to start off with:

The STI Files
Testing, Testing: All About Getting Tested for STIs
Wilderness Tips: A Survival Guide For Your Sexual Adventures
Figuring Out How to be a Lesbian Safer Sexpert

I'm gonna also throw in one external resource: Sex education often leaves out queer people. Here's what to know (NPR)

I hope these are a good starting point. Please let us know what questions come up from these that we can answer, and/or if you want help finding some more resources <3

Those things are in there! Have a read instead of a skim, and you’ll see! ❤️
