Pregnancy Scare

Unread post by scarletjk »

Hello!

I have been in a bit of a spiral. I have only been having sex with my my partner for 6 months, and I keep convincing myself that I am pregnant and ruining the beautiful experience that is sex.

For context, I had two very bad relationships in which I engaged in acts that were not consensual on my end. My current partner is amazing, communicate, and so so supportive to the point where he is the only person i’ve really ever been able to have sex with. That being said, the sex itself is not without a shadow of trauma that also comes up occasionally.

I monitor all of my symptoms so closely for what could be considered pregnancy. I have had multiple periods. I have taken breaks from sex because I get so wrapped up in the potential of pregnancy. I am on a combination BC pill, taken with near perfection, have my partner use condoms, AND he pulls out. There’s theoretically no chance. Regardless, I am terrified that there is something that I am missing.

Hi scarletjk,
You're not alone here. We get more users than you might think with these kinds of anxieties. So many that we have a whole article that compiles our pregnancy scare resources. Since it seems like your current measures mean there isn't a realistic risk of pregnancy-- and you know that, I'd recommend scrolling down to the sections designed for you. You have already figured out that past trauma is contributing to your anxiety, so you may also find some of the articles for strengthening boundaries and managing stress to be helpful. If you want to spend some time reading those resources, we can talk more about what you've read and answer additional questions here. It's also possible that you may need the help of a qualified counselor to navigate persistent pregnancy anxiety. Do you currently have a therapist or are you open to seeking one?
