LGBT Films Centering People of Color

Unread post by asunflower »

Hi all,

I read through a previous post on this board about LGBT films that don't end tragically. I really liked the conversation that emerged from it and it reminded me of a few Twitter threads and online discussions I'd seen in other forums about highlighting LGBT films about people who aren't white coming of age, falling in love, and or getting happy endings. Some of my favorites are Set it Off, The Half of It, and The Handmaiden.

I haven't seen a similar post here yet (but let me know if I've missed it) so I thought I'd ask if you all have any favorite LGBT films that have people of color as their protagonists?

Oooh, great question, asunflower!

The films that come to mind for me are Pariah (2011), Moonlight (2016), and Tangerine (2015). These are definitely not happy-go-lucky films, though -- so I'd love to hear other folks' suggestions!
