Songs for Queer Love/Yearning

If it doesn't seem to fit anywhere else, this is probably the place for it.

Songs for Queer Love/Yearning

Unread post by Sam W »

I was talking with a music-loving friend of mine (the person who has been introducing me to new, cool music since high school) about how nice it is that there are more and more songs, including ones that get some radio play, that are about LGBT relationships of some kind. That got us a brainstorming songs of queer love and yearning, both current and from decades ago, and I thought it would make a fun conversation starter here as well!

Some of my favorites are:

B.D Woman's Blues by Lucille Bogan
Do it For Her from Steven Universe
Most of Orville Pecks' discography.

How about y'all?
And you to whom adversity has dealt the final blow/with smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go/turn to and put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain/and like the Mary Ellen Carter rise again.

I really like girl in red. I recently discovered her through another lbgtq+ friend and I can't seem to get enough. Y'all should really check her out!

You know I love a playlist!

I'd add:
Constant Craving, K.D. Lang (I MEAN --)
Romeo and Juliet, Indigo Girls
Both Hands, Ani DiFranco
Someone saved My Life Tonight, Elton John
Baby Can I Hold You, Tracy Chapman

I actually have a playlist with a ton of LGBTQ+ artists on it! Newbies like MNEK, Troye Sivan, Hayley Kiyoko, etc. I've also been getting into Dorian Electra, Rina Sawayama, Arca...(can you tell I like pop music?)

But I also have a couple of songs in my back pocket that are meaningful to me as a queer person despite not being made by queer artists. I'm thinking of Anthony Hamilton's "Can't Let Go." Real old-school gospel-style stuff right there.
