Increased discharge on pill

Unread post by kudfc6f5duxc »

I started on Microgynon 4/5 months ago, and now I have an increase in vaginal discharge. Im pretty sure that this started when I started on the pill, and the discharge is very watery, and doesn't have an unpleasant smell or itch. I figured that if it doesn't, then it's ikay, but I thought the pill led to vaginak dryness not like loads of discharged that I have now?? Thanks

Can I check in first to see if you are current with your sexual healthcare, including tests for infections?

I live in the UK so I don't know if there's a different system? I've only ever done anything with my boyfriend and the same for him. There is pretty much zero possibility of me having an STI. And in the UK, smear tests aren't required until the age of 24- my doctor obviously knows I'm sexually active but hasn't suggested any testing.

It's a good idea to get routine testing once a year if you're sexually active, regardless of your or your partner's sexual history. It was my experience in the UK, too, that they were pretty lax about communicating that message generally. The good news is, when you seek that care out, it's nearly always very accessible and very sensitively delivered.

It's possible to have vaginal infections or imbalances that aren't STIs. Sometimes, excess discharge can be caused by BV, for example. Given that you haven't had sexual healthcare, I'd suggest getting checked to rule out infections. My first suggestion would be Brook: https://www.brook.org.uk/ They're sexual health specialists for under-25s, and they're excellent. You can find your nearest here: https://www.brook.org.uk/find-a-service (and scroll down the page :) ) Alternatively, you can use your nearest NHS GUM or Sexual Health clinic - just give a shout if there's no Brook anywhere near you and you need a hand finding an NHS service.
