is it smart to use an online journal?

hello, I have been using "notion" to journal some of my thoughts. Beginning of this year I made another page to journal about my childhood, some of which I talked about on here already. I was just wondering if that was smart. Is it even legal to recount those things on paper since they were sexual things that happened between real minors?

I don't really keep a journal for real life out of fear that someone would access it and read it (especially my aunt that I live with and takes care of me, she doesn't really respect my privacy). Just in general I'm very anxious about my privacy and have always been a secretive person. I like to journal because it helps with my memory (and I just like to see how far I have grown), I just want to make the right and safe choices!

(also any tips on just privacy and safety when talking about those things in general would be helpful :>)

Hi la2verice!

It's totally legal to talk about your own experiences! If notion lets you password protect any of the notes that feel particularly sensitive you could do that.

Another thing you could do is to use pseudonyms in your writing, and even come up with a code for things which you want to be the only person to understand. One of the benefits of having a physical diary, too, is that you can invest in making your handwriting as illegible as possible Plenty of people in history did all of these things to protect their words at a time before computers, passwords and encryption.

Good luck, but also also, just to note, our message boards will be closed for the rest of the day but we're back tomorrow!
