Tampons wont go in

Unread post by whatuhhh »

My vaginal opening is extremely small, I can't get a tampon in and can only get a finger in sometimes without pain or it being too tight. I think my hymen is really thick and it sticks out, the opening it far towards the front. I've tried a couple times to use a tampon and can't make progress and I've also tried multiple times to put a finger in but I can't always and it can never stretch more. Is this normal?

Hi whatuhhh, and welcome to the boards :)

I am so sorry to hear you’re having pain while trying to insert a tampon! You’re not alone here: it can definitely be uncomfortable to insert a tampon for the first time, but we don’t want it to be a painful experience for you. There are actually some ways to help make it a more comfortable experience, so let’s check that you’ve tried those first. How does that sound?

We actually have an advice column where someone asks a very similar question, and the answer goes through some of those ways of making tampon insertion more comfortable! https://www.scarleteen.com/read/bodies/ ... hould-i-do

The section titled “where to start” might be helpful to read, especially the part about using lubrication and the importance of being relaxed before trying it. How does that all sound to you, as a start?
