long ovulation

Hello! my cycle is usually 35 days long but now its 4 days late with no signs of pms.

According to the Flo app, my predicted fertile window ended around October 3rd, and it's usually accurate. AND on that day, I had pinkish brown mucus plug which I thought was my peak ovulation day. However, I had egg white cervical mucus for over two weeks, and it only went away around October 13th

Is it possible to be fertile or have an ovulation phase that lasts that long, over two weeks? Could this be the reason my period is now late?

thank you!

Hi lilly007!

As far as I know, some bleeding/clump during the follicular phase leading up to ovulation is rare, but it's usually nothing to be worried about. This can happen because of multiple things, such as hormone fluctuations.

Also, there are several factors that can influence your menstrual cycle like stress, changes in activity and weight, and more. Use of hormonal birth control (like the pill) can also affect your cycle. You can read more about the menstrual cycle, and why your period may be late, in these articles:
- On the Rag: A Guide to Menstruation
- Period MIA: Is There A Risk?
- M.I.A or, Dude, Where's My Period?

Could you recognize any notable change in your feelings and activity in the last few weeks? Perhaps we can start from there.

I can’t think of anything specific, but I did start taking magnesium at the end of September. Could that have affected my cycle? what about the long fertile windows is that possible?

I don’t use birth control, and today I’ve just started feeling breast tenderness. I’ve had some sexual activity, but not penetrative sex, only rubbing.

Hi Lilly!

A 35 day cycle isn't uncommon. And these things can fluctuate throughout our life as well. If it is regularly becoming longer than that, it could be worth bringing it to a medical professional to rule out any underlying issues.

It's good that you are tracking your cycle and symptoms. Do you have a gynecologist you can bring these concerns to?

no unfortunately... I come from a very religious family and I dont want my parents to find out that im in any way sexually active thats why I came here. it has never been longer than 36 days this year but im now 5 days late. My concern is that I experienced egg white cervical mucus for a while, and I'm worried that could have led to pregnancy, even with non-penetrative sex. im sorry if it sounds silly :(

I'm so sorry to hear that, and as a fellow Asian I can definitely relate to you :")

Since you mentioned what you did with your partner, would you mind sharing if there were barriers (like clothing) involved? If both or at least one of you were clothed, there shouldn't be any chance of pregnancy. Sperm cells do not survive as long if they are outside of the urethra or vagina. You can read more about sperm cells here: Who's Afraid of Sperm Cells?, or about the possibility of pregnancy and STI based on sexual activity here: Can I Get Pregnant, or Get or Pass On an STI From That?

Also, I wonder if it's possible for you to schedule an online appointment with a gynecologist where you are? I know in many parts of the world, Asia included, you can consult gynecologists online if going to a clinic isn't a solution for you.

Side note: we've noticed that your stated location doesn't seem to match your IP address. We specify in our user agreement that we do not allow VPNs to limit trolls coming to our site (and I'm sure you can appreciate why we'd want to limit those kind of interactions here ;; ). So, before moving forward, could you confirm for us if you're using a VPN and if you're able to instead use a standard internet connection to talk to us? Thank you in advance!

I do just want to be clear here that there is no two weeks of ovulating. Ovulation only lasts about 12-36 hours. For everyone.

Menstrual tracking apps that only base info they are sharing about ovulation on period timing simply don't have enough information to give anyone accurate information about ovulation. (It's really a pity so many keep claiming they can give this information with any accuracy.) To have that those apps would also have to ask you to describe your mucus daily and/.or to give a basal temperature.

The fluid discharge you saw for those two weeks could have been a couple of things, including a combination of any of these:
• hormonal changes
• a bacterial imbalance or infection
• vaginal discharge of the type we often see with arousal
• sweating
• certain health conditions, like PCOS
• or just a longer follicular phase

I just want to make sure everyone is working with the right information!

I was wearing underwear, but he did release some pre-ejaculate. I’m not sure if it could have gone through my underwear. I wasn’t too worried at first, but now that my period is 8 days late, I’m wondering if I should take a preg test??? :(( or if it’s just my hormones affecting my cycle, and I was ovulating late?

Also, just to clarify, I’m not using a VPN and I don’t know why my location seems off. I promise I’m not trolling hehe.

and yes I can book an online doctor appointment, but I’m still not comfortable discussing my sexual experiences without being completely anonymous, so I went here first I hope thats okay...

Hi there!

I wanted to hop in here and supply a resource about the likelihood, or lack of, pregnancy here. This article does a great job of explaining what all is needed for pregnancy, turns out it is much more nuanced than egg and sperm. Human Reproduction: A Seafarer's Guide More specifically, I would read the section underneath the bold heading titled "Can I get pregnant if my partner ejaculates in his pants/in the bathtub/across an interstate highway (and so forth)?". Let me know your thoughts after giving that a read!
