WORRIED! BC AND CONDOMS

Unread post by AshleyB11 »

So I've been on yaz for 5 years now. My boyfriend and I have been having sex making sure to use a condom every time. I'm wondering how reliable this method is at preventing pregnancy? I'm very consistant with taking my pills. I'm also wondering if you can build a tolerance to your BC after taking it for so long? I really can't afford to get pregnant right now!!

Using condoms and hormonal birth control (like the pill) together is about as protected as you can get. You can see the effectiveness rates for various combinations of methods here: The Buddy System: Effectiveness Rates for Backing Up Your Birth Control With a Second Method

Developing a "tolerance" for BC over time isn't something that happens. We have some pieces explaining how the pill works and what decreases effectiveness that might help you out:

How do birth control pills really work, even during the placebo period?
