Feeling behind on life
About a month or so, I was feeling so behind on life that it sucks seeing people around my age that are living the life I want to live and when I see people do that, I begin to question what I’m doing with my life. I’m still living with my mom, I haven’t got my driver's license yet, I don’t have much money at all, I haven’t been anywhere in my life and I have always wanted to travel outside the country and state. But now I think about it, I have begun to know that everybody's lives are different and have different paths and I know the people that are successful around my age have a way different path than me and I shouldn’t be ashamed of not being successful like them, because I know what I can control at the end of the day.

Re: Feeling behind on life
Good observation there! I understand what you're going through, as someone whose life isn't the most "ordinary" myself. I'm a few years older than yourself, and I haven't reached some of the milestones you've mentioned either. For instance, I've yet to obtain a driver's license--mainly because I prefer commuting by public transport, but my dad has been pestering me to take lessons this month--and I haven't traveled that much outside the province I am in. But at the same time, compared to myself years ago, I've seen how much I've grown mentally; I am now more resilient, I am now more honest and vulnerable with myself, I am now more capable of supporting those around me.
Remember, this will be your first time being an adult. It's only your second year as one. You'll definitely experience more growth in a lot of ways, some of which you may not realize yet. You have all the time you need to become a better person on your own terms. You got this! ^_^

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to read my story, and sorry for the late response. By the way, I’m glad you are more resilient, and you are more honest and vulnerable with yourself. I’m proud of you and I hope to get to know you more in the future. And so, I know I still have time when it comes to my life. I’m still trying to find myself and who I am as a person and have a lot of learning to do, especially when I’m out in the real world.
I’m surprised you like to take public transport because, for me, I don’t, since it takes longer to get stuff done.

Re: Feeling behind on life
Hey, SilverFalcon: I also just wanted to check in with you and see what you actually want for yourself now or soon. It's one thing to compare ourselves to other folks when we want something very different, but it's something else when what we are seeing is what we want and could be within our reach. After all, to get to the kind of lives we want we do often have to do things, or at least plan to do things, to make those things happen.
For example, I hear you saying you'd like to travel outside California. I also can't get a read on if you want to be living with your Mom, or you want your driver's license, for instance: are these things you want to change and feel stuck with or uncertain how to pursue them?

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. - Margaret Mead
