Trying To Understand Groinal Responses.

Hi again Scarleteen. I kind of wanted to talk to you guys about something that I deal with and somewhat understand but still am really confused with. I sometimes deal with a bunch of weird sensations in my groin area in non-sexual situations. For example when I'm excited for something like a song or an event coming I feel a weird tingly sensation down there and it can feel really weird and uncomfortable. When I'm anxious I feel the same thing but I usually feel it on my bum which can also feel really uncomfortable. Sometimes they come out of nowhere when I'm doing nothing. They can be in relation to when I have intrusive thoughts and images but it can make me feel weird in general and can make feel as if I have a lack of understanding about my own body. I have read resources that state that not all groinal responses are related to arousal which was a relief but it's still hard to deal with. Could you help me understand more on what exactly are groinal responses and why they occur in non-sexual scenarios.

Hi! I'm not sure I'm understanding what exactly you mean by groinal responses, but I found that term is an OCD-based term. While what you've described as a "tingling" feeling sounds normal and common, if this is related to OCD, it's best for you to talk to a mental healthcare professional about this.

If you're in actual pain or discomfort, you can make an appointment with a GYN to get a checkup. Otherwise, if it's more like a tingling sensation you're just not used to yet, and seems to be connected to intrusive thoughts/anxiety/other OCD-related stuff, then a mental health provider is the way to go. <3
