did I switch my birth control pills "correctly"?

Unread post by becbecster »

Hi I've been looking around different posts and pages on Scarleteen to understand if I switched my birth control pills in which the efficacy wasn't affected in any way, but I cant come to a conclusive answer so I just wanna verify

I switched birth control earlier this month (on the 9th to be exact) and now I am taking Yaz when I was previously on Alesse (I think it was spelt) in which the only (major) thing that changed was the progestin. If I switched from these two mid-way through the original pill I was taking (with no breaks or taking the placebo pills of the original pill - like immediately from the day I was prescribed the new pack) would this have affected the efficacy for the first week of taking it? Would I be protected now after a week or so? and is there any major concern if my placebo pills days have shorten from 7 days to now 4? Thanks :D (also my doctor did say it was fine to switch immediately but I was unable to ask about this as I was in a position in which I wasn't able to ask)

Hi becbecster,

Yaz and Alesse are both combined birth control pills so as your doctor said, it's okay fine to switch right away without any major issue. If you've been taking Yaz for a full 7 days now, you should be protected and the amount of placebo pills won't make a difference in that after you've taken the new pill for 7 days. That said, for things like this, it's always best to ask your doctor and listen to their advice. They know your specific circumstances best and we are not medical professionals, so we can give you general information but not specific medical advice. <3
