Spotting way to much?

Unread post by OCallieDaniel »

I have a question about spotting on birth control:

Recently, for the past week or so, I'm spotting VERY frequently. (Looks like dried up/brown blood). It seems too much to be usual and happens every day.
I read online that it can be when on new birth control pills, or when taking not a combination pill. I am on the combination pill and have been on it for about 5 years, so it can't be this.
I also read it can be related to STD's or infection, I can guarantee it's not STD since I've only slept with my husband and we both got tested for most STD's and did not have them. I don't know about infection, but nothing hurts or seems off.
The last was pregnancy, and I have been taking the pill every day without skipping a dose, but I know it's possible since no contraceptive is perfect (although it's supposed to be VERY rare for the birth control pill!)
I don't know what's wrong with me! What could it be? What should I do? It's starting to concern me :(

Spotting is a common side effect of hormonal birth control like the pill, so if you and your partner are up to date with your STI tests and you're not noticing any other signs of infection, then it's likely you're just having some random spotting: it happens. Per the possibility of pregnancy, what's most common with pregnancy is no bleeding at all, and it sounds like you've been taking your pill as directed so the chances are very low anyways, but you could always take a test to double check if that would make you feel better. If the spotting continues, too, you can always check in with a doctor. That's what they're there for!
