Age of Consent derpiness

Unread post by Jwashere »

In 31 states it is legal to have intercourse with a 16 year old. In another 8 it's legal to have fun with 17 year old's. In 0 states it is legal to have naughty pictures of anyone under 18. See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_c ... ted_States and http://www.ageofconsent.us/

Why?

Isn't it more intimate to get intimate with someone than to take/give naughty photos?

Why is it taking so long for the powers that be to see the lack of logic and change things? What, if anything, can random forum people like us do about it?

What do you think the age of consent should be? Should there be different ages for taking photos and getting physical?

Just a reminder that you are in a community mostly made of, and for, young people. So talking about minors as "other" like you are - "fun with a 17 year old" or "naughty pictures of anyone under 18" - especially as an older adult yourself isn't so cool here.

You'll also want to make sure discussions really are centered ON young people and for them, rather on older adults. A discussion of the AOC here, for example, that is centered on young people won't be about how an adult might feel restricted by AOC laws per *their* access to minors (which not only isn't about many of them, it can also come off as kind of creepy, especially as an older person with no history here coming in to talk about limitations with pornography with young people as the subject, for reasons that are perhaps obvious).

Intimacy isn't something determined by what someone does in some kind of universal way. For example, a kiss with one person can feel/be very intimate, while with another, it isn't at all. Sharing photos that involve the person in them being very vulnerable can be highly intimate for that person, while they may find that, for example, intercourse with a trusted partner may not leave them feeling very vulnerable at all, so, on that token alone, may be something they experience as less intimate.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has. - Margaret Mead
