Hi
I'm hoping to get a bit of advice regarding antibiotics and birth control pills. About two weeks ago, I went on Macrobid for a UTI. I asked the prescribing doctor about any interference with the medication, and he said no. But when I asked the pharmacist, he recommended a backup method for during and seven days after the antibiotics. I began to spot a little during the last couple of days on the antibiotics, so just to be safe I decided to skip my withdrawl week and start a new pack of pills. Its been over a week and I am still spotting I am not concerned about being pregnant however I would like advice on when I can expect the spotting to resolve or if I need to look into it further by making an appointment with my doctor.
Thanks in advance!!

Re: Antibiotics and Birth Control
Hi rosalie21,
There is no definite answer to when your spotting may stop. Antibiotics can decrease the effectiveness of the pill and may alter the pill's affects in different ways, potentially such as spotting. All bodies respond to birth control (and antibiotics) in different ways which is why we can't give you any concise answer, but if this is still causing you concern or worry I would suggest just checking in with your doctor
