Question about the combined contraceptive pill

I had sex with my girlfriend on the pill, but she only has 4 pills left. I heard that sperm can live in the vagina for up to five days, so is there a chance that any remaining sperm alive after she has run out of pills could cause any pregnancy?

Hi Leafwater,
Just to clarify, will she be continuing to take the pills after this current pack ends, or is she stopping them completely after this pack?

She is stopping after her pack ends.

So, if she is going to stop using the pill, you will need to use an alternate mode of contraception, such as condom. We generally advise backing up with a condom anyway as it adds extra protection as well as defense against STIs.

Ok thanks for the information. But to clarify, there is no high risk of pregnancy even if there is sperm in her after she runs out of pills in three days?

So long as you two don't have intercourse without using any method of contraception (like condoms, for example) once she stops taking the active pills in this last pack, you're good.
