Irregular Periods with Copper IUD

Unread post by edelaney48 »

I've had my IUD for about six months now. The first four months were exactly the same with 7 days of very heavy bleeding. Then last month, it came about a week early and lasted about 7 days, which was more annoying than it was concerning. Then this month it was about 5 days late, with one day of very heavy bleeding and then it stopped the next day. Is this all just my body adjusting to the IUD?

It's very likely that it is.

Personally, I'd suggest checking in with your healthcare provider just to be sure (especially if you're not current with your general sexual healthcare, including STI screenings, or have had any new partners w/out safer sex since your insertion). But chances are awfully good this is just what's happening. Too, it's just as possible your cycle is just shifting as it will from time to time throughout your life, with or without an IUD.
