Condom Question

Unread post by Angeldelight123 »

Hi there,

Basically I take the pill and my boyfriend wears a condom every single time we have sex and we do so perfectly and properly.

Last night however, we were having sex and stopped halfway through to grab some lube, but my boyfriend put on a bit too much and I was like "woah okay" but it didn't cause any problems. After he ejaculated, he withdrew as normal and nothing went wrong, the condom did not break or slip off etc etc, but I found that my downstairs area was very very wet and slippery and so was the condom as he handed it to me to tie a knot in it, and I started freaking out a little bit because I thought "what if semen leaked from the top of the condom?" but my boyfriend reassured me that nothing like that occurred and I do believe him because when he withdrew I seen all the fluids at the bottom of the condom like it usually is, yet I can't help but doubt myself!

is the extra wetness on me and the condom most likely to be the extra lube and my vaginal fluids instead of semen? How common is it for semen to leak from the base of the condom anyway?

I know that semen can only leak from the base if there wasn't sufficient room at the tip, but we always pinch the tip when putting the condom on like you should, so nothing like that shouldnt have happened?

Also, if that was to occur would it not matter anyway because I take the pill religiously?

I hope this all makes sense and thank you in advance for any advice.

Hi Angeldelight,

We can't 100% say what made the condom so slippery this time around, but odds are that the extra lube is the cause.

You've actually hit on why we suggest combining methods. In the event that one fails (like a condom breaking) you have protection from the other one (be that a pill, IUD, or something else).
And you to whom adversity has dealt the final blow/with smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go/turn to and put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain/and like the Mary Ellen Carter rise again.

Thanks Sam.

So, despite a possible slip up with the condom, there shouldn't really be a cause for concern since I take my pill properly?

Can I just add though that the condom did not break or slip off and all fluids were still in the condom when he withdrew because I did see it. Everything just felt more wet and slippery than usual but that is most likely due to the extra lube, but I do have anxiety issues so I must've just put the thought into my head that something leaked when deep down I know that most likely did not happen and it was the lube that caused all the wetness.

I also had a look at this article, http://www.scarleteen.com/bb/viewtopic. ... ill#p24241

And it says in it: "When condoms fail, it's obvious: a condom failure occurs when the condom slips all the way off, and broken condoms tend to look shredded, kind of like a broken ballon. Not something you can miss. If neither of those things happen, then the condom worked; there's no need to fill them with water or air or anything else afterwards."

Would this piece of information apply to me too since the condom did not break or slip off like I said?

Hey Angeldelight123,

Yep, that info would apply to you. Nice job finding the answer on your own!

Also, as Sam W. said: "In the event that one fails (like a condom breaking) you have protection from the other one (be that a pill, IUD, or something else)." So, in the future if your condom were to break, you would still be protected by the pill.

You mentioned that you have anxiety issues--it seems like maybe that is what is driving these worries? Now that you have your question answered, and you know that you are pregnancy-protected, I'd suggest some self-care! Self-Care a La Carte
