hurting!

Unread post by janelle23 »

I've gotten so many UTIs, and one yeast infection throughout the last two years. This last one recently they found nothing. I've gone to my lady doctor every time but I still have unanswered questions that maybe you could help me out with. I usually get them after I've had intercourse, even though I do go to the bathroom before and after. I'm tired of hurting so much and all the time! I don't know what it could be. Help:(

Oof, that sounds painful and lousy, I'm not surprised you're tired of it!

One yeast infection in two years isn't necessarily out of the ordinary, but no-one would want multiple UTIs. Some people do wind up with recurrent UTIs - it's one of those things that can be pesky and difficult to figure out and treat - but still, it's very very unpleasant. We'll be happy to do what we can with making suggestions for possible ways forward from where you're at.

Could you fill us in some more about where you've got to with your doctor so far?
- by "lady doctor", is this a gynaecologist (a doctor specialising in sexual and reproductive health), or a general doctor?
- what tests has your doctor done, how has she diagnosed UTIs?
- what treatments has your doctor given you?
- what suggestions has your doctor made, and how has it gone if/when you've tried them?
- this last time when she found nothing, did she still diagnose you with a UTI?
- anything else that you think is relevant

Too, have you seen Out, Out Damn UTI!?
The kyriarchy usually assumes that I am the kind of woman of whom it would approve. I have a peculiar kind of fun showing it just how much I am not.

Yes she's my gynecologist. I've taken urine tests, I've taken pills although I don't know the exact names. She just said to go to the bathroom before and after intercourse which I've done and that's about it. And no this time she didn't diagnose me with anything, she just said she was going to give me some medicine for the hurting. I don't know if it could maybe be the condoms or what! One time I stayed awake all night crying because of the pain! Just want it to stop.

Ouch, that sounds like it sucks in a big way. Have you told your OB-GYN that peeing before and after intercourse isn't working? If so, what did she say?

If the pain was from the condoms, that could suggest a latex allergy rather than a UTI. There's not a way for us to diagnose that via internet, but if you wanted to you could try latex-free condoms to see what happens. It may also be a good idea to hold off on penetrative sex for a little while until you and your OB-GYN have more of a sense of what's going on here. It sounds like these UTIs are super painful for you, and if they seem to be connected to certain sexual activities, holding off on those activities might give you a break from the pain.
