Birth control and migraines

Unread post by gatesy08 »

So I've been reading about how birth control and suffering from migraines with aura can increase your risk of a stroke. This has happened to me once, about a year ago. I wouldn't say I suffer from migraines though. I just get a couple of headaches now and then. Do you think this is a major concern?

This is something only your doctor will be able to evaluate, based on your complete medical history. Did you tell them that you'd once had a migraine when they prescribed you the pill?

No it wasn't asked. And I was prescribed the pill 7 years ago now.

If this is still something you are concerned about, you are welcome to schedule a follow-up appointment with your doctor to ask this question, along with any other questions you have about your birth control.

It might be helpful to understand that migraines are a very specific kind of headache, and those with aura all the more so.

Since you seem to be saying you do not experience migraines save once, let alone any with aura, this potential issue with the pill just doesn't seem to be about you at all.

That said, no one should have ANY prescription continued for many years without their prescribing physician updating their health history. So, if you have somehow not been seen by this doctor at all in the last seven years for them to be sure this or any medication is still safe for you, you should make an appointment for a checkup soon.
