HPV/Warts
There is something going on between me and a guy who has genital warts. We've had 3 encounters so far and we both are trying really hard to be careful. He is seeing a doctor about his condition and his warts went from 9 to only 2 the last 2-3 months. I have done a very detailed research online to see what are the transmission risks but I cannot find answers to some of my questions. What I want is to know all the things that me and my partner can do without risk. So far we have kissed, he has performed oral sex on me, fingered me vaginaly and I have given him a HJ wearing a surgical glove. From what I've read, HPV is transmitted through skin-to-skin contact so we didn't worry about saliva or semen. From what I know HPV is not in any fluids. Except for genital-to-genital contact and me performing unprotected oral sex on him, what are the other risks? If he has touched himself and then touched my genitals am I at risk? Am I at any risk if he has touched himself and then touched me anywhere on the body? Also, could I get HPV from oral on his testicles or anus?

Hi Kate,
To answer a few of your questions, it is possible to transmit HPV through unprotected oral contact with the anus or through fellatio. In addition to skin to skin contact, HPV can also be transmitted by mucous membrane contact. We have a ton of information in these articles about how HPV is transmitted and the ways to minimize the risks of transmission, and he may also want to talk with his healthcare provider about their recommendations for minimizing risk.

But, can I get HPV by a person with warts performing oral sex on me? Or again, if he has touched himself and then touched me?

Re: HPV/Warts
Yes to oral sex transmission, though in this case, given the specifics, it seems unlikely to me. However, using a barrier, like a dam, can reduce any risks as well as risks of other infections. Per touching himself and then you, that's not a known route of transmission, no.
