Hello,
I switched from birth control pills to the Mirena IUD about a month and a half ago. I had Mirena inserted while I had my withdrawal bleed, but have not gotten my period since. I have been spotting very consistently though. Is it normal for periods to stop immediately after insertion or is it something to be concerned about?

Re: IUD Question
Hi ReelGirl,
A common side effect of the Mirena IUD is experiencing changes in your period. Some people find that their periods are shorter or lighter, and some people may stop getting them or get them infrequently. So this is likely a side effect of your IUD and not cause for concern.

And you to whom adversity has dealt the final blow/with smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go/turn to and put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain/and like the Mary Ellen Carter rise again.
