you can't be ready if you don't understand the physical part of it. and there's no one physical part, it depends on who you're having sex with. i would spend some time reading up, especially here on scarleteen since there's so much inclusive and accurate information. if that's too much work for you, here's some good links: http://www.scarleteen.com/article/advice/whats_sex ; http://www.scarleteen.com/article/bodie ... every_body ; http://www.scarleteen.com/article/sexua ... ers_manual

i hope this helps

Hi Maggie,

When you say you're ready for sex, is it something you and a partner are planning to engage in soon? Or is it a more general feeling that, should the chance to be sexually active come along, you'd be ready for it?

Too, you mention you know the risks attached to sex and that you're wondering about the how the physical part works. But the thing is, there are even more elements to consider when thinking about being ready for sex than those two things. Have you taken a look at this article Ready or Not? The Scarleteen Sex Readiness Checklist ? Any thoughts about what it says?

As an aside to terezichan, thank you so much for being eager to help out a fellow user, but this is a reminder that this area of the boards is for staff replies only.
