Body Image
I'm thirteen, I weigh 160 pounds and I'm 5'8. When I look in the mirror I HATE the way I look. Everyone I know says my body is perfectly normal, but I struggle to really believe them. Any suggestions on how to improve body image?

Re: Body Image
Aw Wowie, Welcome to Scarleteen,
I'm so sorry you feel that way. It is so rough when we just aren't able to see ourselves or our bodies positively.
Is there anywhere you think your negative body image could be coming from?

Re: Body Image
They probably come from a lot of different places, but maybe we can start here: what happens when you challenge those beliefs?
For example, let's say you find yourself thinking, "My body isn't normal (whatever that even means, anyway)," and you counter it with a thought that says, "That's so wrong, yes it is." What happens then? Can you change up how you're thinking? Or have you not yet even tried challenging your own thoughts and beliefs like that at all?
Can I ask what you've read about body image? Any books about it -- whether that's books on where negative body image all can come from, or books on improving it? If not, are you open to some suggestions?
