What do you want in a relationship?

Just curious as to what everyone's opinion is on a romantic relationship.

For me, I think a relationship means two people are in a team, who have each other's backs and help each other when things get tough. It means being considerate of the other person, and truly trying to understand things from the other person's perspective. It should also have loyalty and respect.

What do you guys think?

Welcome to Scarleteen! Good question!

I think the top three things that I tend to look for are:

- communication flows relatively well (finding it easy to talk is a really good sign)
- being accepting of what we might both want
- being open to change (including the relationship coming to an end if it needs to)

I like all of the relationship qualities that have been named so far!
In a romantic relationship, I want to have an ease/comfort with the other person; it's nice to be with someone I can talk to just as easily as I can happily sit in the same room quietly with them without feeling awkward. I also like feeling excited or enthusiastic about the other person, and about getting to know more about them, and I want to feel like htey feel that way about me too.
