What oils are safe to use as lube?
I wanted to know what household oils are safe to be in and around your vagina. I can't buy actual lube, because my parents would find out, but at home I have olive oil, coconut oil, and canola oil. Are any of these safe? (For personal use, not necessarily with others.) Thank you!

Hello YeetGarnet
I would belive all of these are body safe as long as you are not allergic to them. You could try to do a small skin test to see how it would react on you arm. To do this you could dab your finger in it and apply it to a part of your body then see how your body reacts.

I found this for coconut oil "Unfortunately, it's not perfect in the lube department. Because coconut oil is antibacterial and antifungal, there's a chance that it could disrupt your vagina's natural pH balance and cause a yeast infection if you're prone to them, Morse says. And, because it's an oil-based lube, it's not safe for use with condoms.May 16, 2016

Hey there, YeetGarnet.
Coconut oil or olive oil would be my suggestion. However, that link that DArwin shared about it has some information that's new to me (thanks for that, DArwin!), so if you are inclined to yeast infections, you may want to more strongly consider olive.

Hi Pan,
I did a search and it looks like we recently answered this question for you -- as a reminder, we said that castor oil is perfectly safe for the uses you described, and also that it may wear down a condom so to be aware of that risk if you're engaging in partnered sex with condoms.
