Not a sex question, but I need help on finding out why my periods are so painful that I feel like I'm going to pass out or sometimes think I'm going to die. My travels throughout my body from my head to toes. It's unbelievable

Hi Maples2332,

Ouch, are you referring to things like cramps or soreness during your period? Because some people do find them to be very intense and painful. That's just part of the person to person variation of periods. If they're consistently so, would you be open to talking to a healthcare provider about ways to manage them (like birth control)?

You may also find this article helpful for reducing that pain: http://www.scarleteen.com/article/advic ... t_the_pill
And you to whom adversity has dealt the final blow/with smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go/turn to and put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain/and like the Mary Ellen Carter rise again.

Hey there...
Sorry that your period is causing such troubles for you. I would see a doc just to make sure nothing is wrong (in many cases there isn't). It seems that the pill can help many women with cramps. It makes you stop ovulating and changes your hormones so you may not cramp or PMS as much. The pill does come w/ some side effects sometimes, so if you need the pill just to regulate your cycle and reduce cramps, there are some alternative and holistic options (like herbal remedies) that I've heard can help. Also, I never had the cramps you were describing, but I'd have 1 days per month I'd have moderate cramps (but would feel much better w/ advil, but i hate taking stuff)... more sex and period sex can help. not sure why, but I swear it does... Feel better, and I hope you get answers!!!

Just a thought if you want help w/out the pill http://wellnessmama.com/7199/pms-cramps-remedies/

xoxo

Just to be clear, hormonal birth control devices (or IUDs, or over-the-counter pain relievers, or massage, anything, really), can help some people with their menstrual pain issues, but not others, or some with one aspect of that pain, and something else with another. What may help, or will help, has a lot to do with the WHY of someone's menstrual pain.

If, for example, someone has PCOS, and that's the why of their pain, hormonal treatment is what's usually most likely to help, while other things probably won't. If, on the other hand, someone is having menstrual pain because of muscle tension, hormonal methods won't do anything, but massage, acupuncture or an Advil probably will.

Finding out what your why-of-this-pain is, and to learn what your best options are, you'll need to start with a visit with a reproductive healthcare provider.

That's not something anyone online can tell you, so also isn't something it's sound, especially without you being able to tell us that why, for others (our staff or fellow users) to pipe in on with very general opinions or suggestions.

What you'll want to do is make an appointment with this kind of healthcare provider. If you need any help with that, let us know! :)
