Birth Control and Antibiotics

Unread post by Tinasha »

I have been on the pill for almost 6 months now. Recently, I developed a UTI and was prescribed SeptraDS (trimethoprim) for 3 days. The pharmacist said it interfere's with the pill's efficiency and told me to use back up protection for a while but never told me for how long. After how many days after taking the pill am I fully protected?

Hello there, Tinasha.

This is a question that it'd be better answered by the person who prescribed the antibiotics or the pharmacist who gave you the meds. It's just hard for us to answer something like this without being doctors. So I'd say, maybe to give them (doctor or pharmacist) a call and ask? Do you feel this is something you can do? :)
