Alesse birth control pill
So I've recently begun the Alesse birth control pill and am currently on my 5th day of it. I got my period last Sunday afternoon and started my pill cycle the following day, Monday morning because I wanted to take the pill in the morning rather than night. I have several questions about the pill that I would like to be answered:
1) How soon after beginning my first cycle of birth control pills can I have unprotected sex?
2) If I finish my first cycle of 21 BC pills can I have unprotected sex during the placebo/sugar pills?
3) While on the pill, if I do have unprotected sex can my boyfriend cum inside of me or should he still pull out?

Hi Curiousgeorge,
To answer your questions, we recommend going a full cycle on the pill before going without condoms. So, to be on the safe side wait until you start the second pack before having sex sans condom.
As far as ejaculation, if you want to minimize the odds of pregnancy having him use withdrawl would be the better of those two options (although, for maximum protection you'd want to just continue using a condom). Are you and your partner up to date on your STI tests?

Hi Sam,
Yes we are both up to date on STI tests and are both really safe. When I met with my doctor she said the pill is in complete effectiveness within the first week of taking it. Does that mean I can have unprotected sex after a week if I have no chance in getting an STI?

Re: Alesse birth control pill
With the pill, if you start it either on the first day of their period or the first Sunday after a period it is likely that it will be fully effective after seven days. However we, along with other credible sources, advise waiting a full month before going without back up, just to be on the safe side.

Okay, so if I were to have unprotected sex after a full week of taking my BC pills, can my boyfriend cum inside me once the pill is in full effectiveness?

You'd likely have full protection if he did so, but I'd suggest waiting a full cycle just to be as safe as possible before letting him ejaculate inside you.

I'm going to wait a full cycle before having unprotected sex. So you're saying after a full cycle he can ejaculate inside of me with no concerns?

Re: Alesse birth control pill
That's one of those things we can't really say, because that kind of sex, even when using the pill correctly, will always pose some risk of pregnancy, even if that risk is extremely small.
