Bleeding during sex

Unread post by Karyn »

Hi littleredflower,

In your other post you mentioned bleeding during sex, which can happen for a couple of different reasons. One possibility is that there wasn't enough lubrication, and that's easily remedied by using some water-based lube. It could also be the start of your period, if you're due for that soon. Another possibility is infection of some kind; are you and your partner up to date with your sexual health checks and STI tests?

I also want to ask if you're comfortable with using withdrawal as a method? If you'd like to talk about finding a method of birth control that you're happier with and that is more effective, we can certainly do that.

I am comfortable with withdrawal, but we do have condoms.
I know im not about to get my period and when I bled during sex we were using a trojan enz extra lubricated condom like we usually used just last time we had sex we used withdrawal due to no condoms left

Okay. I would still suggest getting current with your sexual healthcare if you aren't, but definitely try adding lube in the future as well: even lubricated condoms don't usually have enough on them, and the natural lubrication that the vagina produces tends not to be enough when condoms are used either. A few drops of water-based lube (something like Astroglide) on the outside of the condom will help reduce friction, which helps prevent small scrapes in the vagina that can bleed, and it helps keep condoms from breaking too. You can also put a drop inside the tip of the condom before rolling it on, which makes things more comfortable for the partner wearing it.

I was also thinking about it we were in a different position this time to. could that be the reason?

If neither of you have ever had any sexual contact with anyone else, then that greatly reduces the chances of either of you having an STI, but it doesn't mean the chance is zero, unfortunately. Some STIs can be spread through non-sexual contact, so it's a good idea to get in the habit of getting regular screenings once you're sexually active: it's something everyone who's sexually active should be doing on a regular basis, and the sooner you get into the habit, the better really.

Per the difference that sexual positioning can make, it's possible that was the cause, if there was more friction this time because of a slightly different angle.

Oh, and how can STI's still be spread through non-sexual contact.

My boyfriend he is 14 and Im his first girlfriend ever. And ive been every first of his like kiss, handjob, all that.

I am 15 and ive only kissed one other person and thats it.

And for the position it kind had more friction for sure

Some things, like herpes (cold sores) can be transmitted through skin-to-skin contact, like a kiss on the cheek from a family member.

I honestly didn't mean to scare you, and I apologise if I've caused you any anxiety! I mentioned STIs as a possibility only because they are indeed one possible cause of bleeding during sex, but like I said, if neither one of you has had any sexual contact with anyone else then the chances of STIs are incredibly low.
