What was the first birth control method you became aware of?

And how did you become aware of it? Did you know what it was right away or did you ask someone?
Mine was actually either the sponge or the diaphragm. I was looking for something in my mom's make-up cabinet and found a box of them. I don't think I would have figured out they were a contraceptive except the word "spermicide" was on the box (spermicides are often paired with cervical barriers) and I knew what sperm was and that "-icide" meant it was being killed.
And you to whom adversity has dealt the final blow/with smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go/turn to and put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain/and like the Mary Ellen Carter rise again.

I learned about birth control pills when I was somewhere around 6 or 7 years old; I was running errands with my mom when she was picking them up from the pharmacy and was intrigued by the pill compact so I asked her about them. Her response was something like "you and your brother are enough children for me so this keeps me from having more" and we didn't really get into it any deeper than that.
