Likelihood of getting pregnant?
Hi all, kind of freaking out right now and not sure if I should be. My girlfriend and I a couple nights ago (12th August) were fooling around. A few times, she got on top of me (still with cotton pants and underwear on) and would dry hump me. She was wet near the vaginal opening, but it didn't seem so much so near the clit where I believe most of the grinding was taking place. My penis (also in just polyester shorts and no underwear) was pointing towards me, and I ejaculated into my shorts. My shorts was completely soaked in ejaculation and we were rubbing continuously for the next 10 seconds. I am very concerned, because her vagina was very close by when this happened (on top of me still). I ejaculated and made my shorts wet (since my penis was pointing towards me I think most of it went onto my lower stomach/upper pelvis) and she was kind of wet too. I'm not sure if the wet parts touched. I was wearing polyester shorts only and hers was kind of like a cotton pants and nylon-spandex underwear from Uniqlo AIRism range. I'm pretty scared, her period is supposed to come by in end of August, so it seems we're at the prime time for ovulation. What are the chances here that she could become pregnant? Is there any way of knowing? We were never naked, just both in our shorts with some pretty close contact and both pretty wet. If it means anything, I don't think she ever directly sat on the part with semen, but it may have made slight contact. There was no PIV intercourse throughout the time. I don't even know if this makes a difference either way. Any help is appreciated, thanks. I hope this isn't a stupid question.

Hi Ryoisee,
Given that there were multiple layers of clothing present, there was not a risk of pregnancy from an activity. Even one layer is enough to prevent there from being a risk.
Since you were worried about the role ovulation plays in all this, I would also suggest checking out this piece: Let's Dial Down Some (Maybe) Ovulation Freakouts

And you to whom adversity has dealt the final blow/with smiling bastards lying to you everywhere you go/turn to and put out all your strength of arm and heart and brain/and like the Mary Ellen Carter rise again.

Re: Likelihood of getting pregnant?
Thank you so much, Sam W, for your reassurance and the article on ovulation-it really helped calm my nerves.
However, I can't help but still feel a bit anxious about the situation. Even though there were three layers of clothing, of the different materials mentioned, my shorts were completely soaked, and her underwear was also wet. We're not entirely sure if that was from her vaginal discharge or my ejaculation, which is what's causing my worry. To add to my concern, her period usually comes at the end of the month or early in the month, so we're right around that time. I really hope I'm just overthinking this, but any additional thoughts or reassurance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for your help!

Hi Ryoisee!
You're in luck — we have a lot of resources on this topic! Here are some of my favorites that I think will be helpful for you:
Start out with this one: Who's Afraid of Sperm Cells? It sounds like a lot of your worry is coming from how wet your clothes got, but this article will explain why that's not a problem at all — even if what was making her underwear wet was your ejaculate, sperm isn't strong enough to get through fabric. Even just one of you wearing just one thin article of clothing would be enough to prevent sperm from reaching your partner's vagina.
Next, this one: You're Not Pregnant. Why Do You Think You Are? This article has a super clear list of which sexual activities can result in pregnancy and which ones can't. It also has helpful ideas about what might be causing your anxiety and what you might need to manage it (for example, do you just need more information about what sexual acts are pregnancy risks? Or are you still anxious even though you intellectually understand that you're not at risk?)
Now, since there's no risk that your partner is pregnant in this situation, those first two article will probably cover everything you need to know. But I will pass along this one as well: The Pregnancy Panic Companion. If at some point in the future you feel anxious about pregnancy again, this is a great piece to help guide you to the advice you need based on how soon after the pregnancy risk it is and what actions you've already taken.
What do you think? Do those articles cover everything you're concerned about?

Re: Likelihood of getting pregnant?
Hi HannahP,
Thank you so much for your detailed response and the resources you shared. It's really reassuring to know that the situation I described isn't a risk for pregnancy. I appreciate you taking the time to address my concerns so thoroughly.
I'll definitely check out the articles you mentioned, especially since I think understanding more about these situations will help manage my anxiety better in the future. It's comforting to have this kind of support and information available.
One more question—would you advise taking a pregnancy test just to be sure? If so, when would be the best time to take it for the most accurate result?
Thanks again for your help!

Hi Ryoisee,
I’m glad what Hannah said was helpful and comforting! If you have more questions as you go through the articles, we’re happy to go through them too.
Taking a pregnancy test can certainly relieve some anxiety, just so you both can see the negative result staring back at you. Your partner can take a test two weeks after the activity if they would like to.
