Finding a Queer Community!
Hi everyone,
This topic came up in another discussion and it seemed like a great one to open up and have a big group discussion on! What are some ways that have helped you to find community around you (in-person or virtually)?

Hey Michaela!
Even though it might not be the best place to be on. I found many online friends on the platform X (Twitter) using the "communities" tab on the app.
Hope it helps a little!

Re: Finding a Queer Community!
Just FYI, I personally would not suggest at this time that queer and trans people seek out community on X given that it is owned and run by someone who is strongly anti-trans and also clearly not a friend to queer people. Harassment of QT people on X is no longer even considered harassment by their policies now, so it just isn't at all safe for anyone there anymore. <3

Re: Finding a Queer Community!
What I have found suuuuuper helpful in reconnecting to queer community post my party years is local queer book clubs.
I really value that they are generally sober events, spaced far enough apart through the year that there isn't a bunch of pressure for weekly activities, they can be moved online (which was great for me during lockdown), and tend to attract a wide range of ages and experiences...
I really yearned for time with older queers when I was new to the city as it always felt like we were reinventing the wheel, and with book clubs I feel like it's easier to have that (and, increasingly, *be* that)
There is also usually very little pressure to have read the book, and many people listen to the audiobook or only get through part of it which is always reassuring to me when my occasional dyslexic symptoms make keeping up difficult.
