Pregnancy Scare: Wore a Condom inside out

Unread post by ar51 »

Hi,
My girlfriend and I have been together for three years, and are quite supportive of each other.

Yesterday night we had oral sex first where she gave me a BJ, and then we decided to change the condom to have sex. I accidentally put the condom the wrong way on the tip, and then reversed it and put it on the right way but saw some pre-cum get on it. After conscious of the little pre-cum on it on the outside, i completely wiped it dry with my hands, and for extra precautions completely wiped the whole condom down twice with a napkin. Then, my gf and I didn’t have vaginal sex, but I rubbed it against her clit area for quite a bit.

Is there a pregnancy scare? I wiped it down twice with a napkin and ensure the whole area is dry. In terms of the cycle as well, here periods just ended yesterday.

Hi there and welcome to the boards, ar51!

Glad to hear you feel your relationship is supportive!

You were right to recognize that flipping the condom could pose a risk because of the precum, that can cointain sperm cells, so that is why we always encourage our users to throw the condom out and just take a new one instead, the little extra work and money is not worth the stress!

As for the situation, what I can tell you the risk is definitely not high and if any, is minimal: there was only precum, you wiped it off, her period has happened recently and the condom didn’t go inside her vagina.
But unfortunately, I can’t tell you there is no risk at all either. Flipping a condom that has already been used/put on poses some risk. Does that make sense?

How do you feel hearing that? And how does your girlfriend feel? Do you want to talk about ways to further lower the risk if pregnancy is something you don’t want to risk by no means?

Hi Andy,

Thank you for the reply, I recognize that it has some risk. I'd say same as you the risk is really quite minimal right? Since I'm 100% sure I had wiped everything, if there was precum on the outside through the napkin, and the condom felt completely dry later.

The activity is risky, but considering I had wiped it off and did not have PIV, can I assume that nothing can happen here? Are there further ways to lower the risk?

I’m sorry I can’t really say nothing beyond that the risk is minimal, because even a minimal risk is a risk for some people and in some circumstances. So this is more about how your girlfriend feels about this and how nervous would waiting for her next period make her.

As for ways to further lower the risk, there is a thing called "Emergency contraception" or "Plan B pill", which, if taken withing 72 hours from the activity that posed the risk, can significantly lower the chances of getting pregnant. You can read more about it here: Emergency Contraception

Let us know if you or your girlfriend have any more questions!

I’d say we’re not too worried actually, and thanks for the help. Since we’ve been together for a decent time, it feels safe and we’ll probably skip on the plan B since the risk is minimal. I feel like this is a non-risk in our circumstance but would’ve been more serious if we’d had PIV. Thank you and open to hearing any viewpoint on your end or Heather’s!

The fact that you didn't have PIV definitely reduces the risk. For the future, I'd just make sure you have plenty of condoms on hand, so if there's an accident with one of them, you've got another one ready to go! It can also be a good idea to practice putting condoms on by yourself a couple times so you feel really confident in it. Our article about condoms (Condom Basics: A User's Manual) might be helpful too! It suggests that you unroll the condom a little bit before you put it on your penis, to make sure you're putting it on the right way.

May I ask why this does pose a (minimal) risk, whilst fingering with precum is not?

I was actually going to ask a similar question! Wouldn't the equivalent of this be manual sex/fingering with precum which is listed as no risk on the website versus here where it's a condom (equivalent to having precum on fingers) and then rubbing on the clit (fingering)? Although here the precum was wiped off!

Hi there, ar and Hati: it looks like our volunteers misread your post and missed that there wasn't actually any direct genital-to-genital contact here, nor any with any semen that didn't make any stops between.

Our apologies, we make mistakes like this sometimes. In a case like this, it would be STI risks that were presented -- bacteria tends to be less fragile and fussy than sperm cells -- if any, not pregnancy risks.
