Is soreness after anal normal?

Hi! I tried anal masturbation with a sex toy for the first time last night. (serious thanks to the writers here for helping me learn about how to do it properly!) Today, I’ve noticed my anus has been a bit sore—nothing painful, but noticeable. Is this soreness something to be expected? Does it indicate any problems, or is that just part of the process of getting used to it? Should I hold off on any further anal play until it doesn’t feel as sore?

Hi!

When trying something like that for the first time, soreness the next day is pretty normal. I would say to hold off until you're not as sore, so as not to injure yourself. I also would recommend using more lube - it typically can help with soreness as your body gets used to it!
