Creating a Sex Ed Course for Middle/High School using Heather Corinna books

Unread post by nerdycoach »

HI there! I am a sex & relationship coach who volunteers as my local queer center. I am currently creating two 6 week all inclusive sex education courses for both middle school & high school students. I have been using the All You Need to Know guide written by Heather. I have most of the middle school course done but am hoping to talk to somebody from Scarleteen/or Heathers team to help answer a few questions I have. While I feel I have hit some very important points in my curriculum, I want to make sure I'm not leaving anything out or not elaborating enough on some content. My center is run by funding and volunteers and even though I have coaching education and experience, I have never taught a sex education course, specifically to students. I'd also like to mention this course is something the center will use going forward when offering these free classes to students, and having its reflect the values and education Heather/Scarleteen has so strongly build is important to me.
I have searched for an email I could reach out to, but came up short. I hope this is a fine message for the boards and am looking forward to hearing from someone.
Thank you for all the work thats done here!!

Hey there, nerdycoach! I'm so glad you've found the book so helpful!

I'm happy to talk with you about this -- including limitations you might or may have already come up against unknowingly when it comes to using more than Fair Use allows for per copyright law and my publishing agreement, as well as the limitations of creating a sex ed curriculum without having taught sex ed before -- but email is better for that than the boards.

You can reach me by using the contact form provided on the index for the about section of the website on the top right corner here: https://boards.scarleteen.com/viewforum.php?f=10
