is masturbating supposed to be uncomfortable?

Post by blahaj78 »

So when I’m masturbating and I get to the point where I’m much more sensitive and it feels more intense and good, it starts to get physically uncomfortable. First of all, every time it happens I suddenly get this sudden, mild bitter taste in my mouth, and I don’t know what it is at all! Should I be concerned? I would prefer it if that didn’t happen. Secondly, while it feels good, my muscles spasm and tighten up so much it feels uncomfortable and I feel like I have to stop. And I want to keep going past that point but the physical uncomfortableness is overwhelming me. Is that normal? Is there something wrong with me? Should I see a doctor? Or am I just going too fast when I masturbate and need to slow down? Or is it something you’re supposed to push through?

I have read that orgasms are supposed to feel like you are relaxed afterwards and like a big release, but I don’t feel relaxed, and it feels like maybe a small release? Does that mean I’m not actually experiencing an orgasm? I’m not sure…

Hi blahaj78 and welcome back to the boards!

So, I was looking at some of your previous posts, and last we heard, it sounded like you had found ways of masturbating that work for you, but I'm happy to help do a little troubleshooting!

About the taste in your mouth, I don't think there's anything wrong with you. I'm not a medical professional, but arousal can change the rate of your saliva production or your sense of taste. It's also possible it's a side effect of ongoing hormonal changes from taking T. Not one I've experienced, but you can always take it up with your medical provider if it's really bothering you. In the meantime, maybe it would be helpful to have a glass of juice or water handy?

I can't tell you whether the muscle spasms you describe might be associated with orgasm or not. Orgasm involves involuntary contractions, but it sounds like what you're describing is tension without the release? It might be helpful to check out our article, Sexual Response and Orgasm: A User's Guide.

I think your idea to back off or slow down when the sensations are no longer pleasurable is a good one. I noticed you mentioned in a previous post that you've been masturbating a lot, so it's also possible frequency might be causing some tenderness or overstimulation. That doesn't mean you need to stop masturbating, but using lube (or more lube if you already are) should help. Any other advice I'd give would probably be covered in HannahP's response to your post on August 15. I especially like the Self-Love Road Trip article she recommends!
