Ejaculated outside of me.
Hi scarleteen,
I have taken my birth control pill regularly but today my boyfriend and I started off having protected sex but as he was about to ejaculate, he pulled out but the condom slipped off and he ejaculated around my vaginal area. Should I be concerned about pregnancy?
Thank you for the help!

Re: Ejaculated outside of me.
So, then in this situation, you will figure that you have the level or protection your pill alone offers you, which in typical use, is about 91% in a year, and in perfect use (as in for a whole year, so perfect use is unusual), around 99%.
For future reference, a big part of proper condom use involves holding the base while withdrawing. If your boyfriend doesn't know he needs to do that, you'll want to let him know (and since this isn't the first time this has happened, it sounds like he doesn't know). That's what prevents what happened today from happening. Given this isn't the first slip-off you've had, it also sounds like your partner may need a snugger-fit condom than what he's been using (which is the case for more people than not). If a condom isn't tight enough around the base of the penis, slipping off is more likely.
And of course, if you two aren't both current with your STI tests, you'll want to get tested again in the next month or two, especially since slip-off this increases STI risks.

Plan B isn't going to do anything your pill isn't doing already, and more effectively, UNLESS you haven't been taking your pill properly. In that case, if you want to reduce your risk, it would do that.

So, then Plan B can't do anything your pill isn't already doing.
Did you need any help or support around talking with your partner about using condoms better, like holding the base when withdrawing or trying a snugger/smaller sized condom?

So the pill protected me then? And I will definitely have to talk with him and tell him we need snugger, tighter fitting condoms and that we need to be updated on our sti testing as well. Thank you.

Again, the pill is 91% effective in typical use, and 99% effective in perfect use (in one full year). So, that's how much protection the pill alone offers.
It's not an it did/it didn't situation, since no method of contraception is 100% effective, and no method is 0%. It's about how much or how little protection a method offers. Make sense?
