First of all, thank you SO MUCH for this site!! It's so incredibly helpful.
Anyway, I have a few questions but here is some background info to go first.
My wonderful boyfriend and I decided to have sex 2 days ago. Friday night to be exact. We used freshly bought condoms that won't expire until 2017. We would use one, then throw it out and use another one just to experiment which was better. We also withdrew long before he ejaculated and he ended up finishing himself. I even filled them up with water afterwards just to see if anything leaked but they didnt.
I've also been on the pill (tri-sprintec) since Sunday, August 31st. So I can't rely on them fully yet. We will definitely use condoms for a very long time anyway.
So here's a few questions:
1.) There really wasn't a huge pregnancy risk, right? I don't think there could be one with all the precautions we took.
2.) I started spotting brown almost immediately afterwards and for the first 24 hours after, too. Today I went to the restroom and noticed a little bright red blood; lik a period but definitley not as heavy. Could this be because I'm new to the pill and it's breakthrough bleeding? Or is it because of the sex? It only hurt the first couple of times trying to "get it in" but it got a lot better as we kept trying. Also, (sort of gross) that Friday night I wiped and saw what looked like sticky brown discharge that resembled tissue or something....could it be from my hymen breaking? It sort of freaked me out....
Perhaps the brown spotting was from the sex, and the bright red blood today is from the pill? Or was it all just coincidentally the pill?
Thanks for the help!!

Re: After sex questions..
Hi Leia, welcome to Scarleteen! In terms of the risk of pregnancy involved in this situation, take a look at this article that explains the effectiveness of paired-up contraceptive methods: The Buddy System: Effectiveness Rates for Backing Up Your Birth Control With a Second Method
As for your second question, the spotting is very, very likely to be break-through bleeding from starting the pill. But it could ALSO be if there was too much friction during the sex that you had, or if there was a bit of roughness involved -- ie. there is the possibility of micro-tears in your vaginal wall. Little abrasions like that tend to clear up after a couple of days, so if this spotting continues for a while longer than that it is more likely to be caused by the pill. The idea that your hymen "breaks" is actually a bit of a myth! We have lots more on that here: My Corona: The Anatomy Formerly Known as the Hymen & the Myths That Surround It
Hope that helps!
