How long can semen/sperm survive in the mouth?

Unread post by purpjuice »

Not a pregnancy scare post. My period came as per usual. But i want to ask about the possibility of something...

Okay, so two weeks ago, I gave my BF a blowjob, and he came in my mouth. I gagged as I swallowed and spat it out onto his stomach. After that, he fingered me for about 6-8 minutes, then I went to the bathroom when I was done. I believe I was ovulating that day (lots of watery CM).

My cervix was hurting after I washed my hands so I sucked my finger (to lubricate) and stuck it up there to feel it for any lesions or anything. Then it struck me -- what if there was semen still in my mouth? My saliva? Had I just artificially inseminated myself by sucking my finger and touching my cervix? AND I WAS OVULATING.

I'm a paranoid person. SO I FREAKED OUT. I cried for two weeks (I can't afford Plan B) and my BF was trying his best to assure me that he would be by my side no matter what happened. But two weeks later, I cramped, and voila. BLOOD. TORRENTS OF BLOOD.

But just a question -- how likely is it that I WOULD have gotten pregnant, given the circumstances? Can sperm survive in the mouth? Or judging from the fact I spat most of it out, was there none at all (I was just worried back then that there was still some on my tongue even though I spat)?

The thing is, you ARE posting about a pregnancy scare here: you're asking questions that you are clearly expressing are about a fear of pregnancy. That's a pregnancy scare. Saying this isn't a pregnancy scare would be like me telling someone I'm not asking them to address fears I had of flying, then giving them all the details about those fears I have and asking me to tell them why I shouldn't be scared. This is a textbook pregnancy scare post.

So.

We will not answer ANY questions about pregnancy fear or anxiety in our direct services from users who are not pregnant or who are not or have not otherwise been directly involved with an actual pregnancy.

Please do not post this kind of question. If you are seeing this text, and your thread is locked, it is because you have posted this kind of question.

We CAN and WILL talk about things like:
• choosing and using a method or methods of contraception for any future sexual activity
• creating your own sexual limits and boundaries based on your needs and/or presenting them to any partners
• making sexual choices that suit your own needs, abilities and limitations, including your own readiness for certain possible risks
• help locating or using emergency contraception if and when you have had a pregnancy risk
• discussing options with a real, existing pregnancy, and help finding and accessing those options, such as abortion services and pre-natal care, or discussing feelings or concerns about a past pregnancy
• help with anxiety like locating mental health services, sound self-help or asking for support from friends or family

For help dealing with a scare (including what poses a risk and your next steps based on your unique situation), you may use our tool on site built for this purpose: The Pregnancy Panic Companion.
