Weird BC and heat question

Unread post by Girltuesday2015 »

This is sort of a paranoid question.

I packed my bags to go to my parents. I had my bc pills in their sleeve inside of another makeup bag.

I straightened my hair and then let the straightener cool a bit (not all the way), and threw it in my bag. While I was driving (20 mins) the straightener leaned against my makeup bag and made it warm. Could this compromise my pills inside of the bag? The straightener was still wrapped up in its cord and touched the side of the bag where my pills were zipped up inside in their other protective pouch.

When I got out of my car 20 mins later, I separated them and the straightener was no longer warm.

Thoughts?

You can tell when oral contraceptives have been kept too warm, because the blister pack each is in will look funky: like it got moisture in there, kind of sweaty.

Thanks! There definitely was slight condensation and the pack was warm to touch. It probably wasn't warranted, but I refilled it since the pharmacist suggested to be safe. My insurance only covers once a month, but it was only 20 bucks out of pocket. Not bad for peace of mind.

I'm starting off the pack where I left off. Thanks!

Oh, last question. I'm on a tri-phasic. I'm literally just punching out the pills I took and leaving off where I left off. I haven't missed any as my next one is due tonight. The heat mishap happened this morning after I took my pill on schedule last night.

The next pill is the same color. There's no issue with this, right?

Nope! You have it right. :)

Just FYI, though, I would save the pills from the new pack you don't need to take. Not only may they come in handy if you ever lose a pill, disposing of any medication is also something to be careful with. We don't want to just throw away or flush medications, because that can present ecological issues in water or landfills. We only want to dispose of expired or unused medications by bringing them to collection sites meant for that kind of waste.

Heather, I just saw your edit. Totally agree. Thanks!

What should I do with my "compromised (maybe)" ones?
